Dear Fellow Machinist, Here's a question that's embarrassed more machinists than any alarm code ever has: "How do I even get into the parameters?" Not the confusing parameter number. Not what the bits mean. Just getting the screen to let you type anything at all — because Fanuc locked the front door on purpose.

What PWE actually is: a single bit — officially parameter No. 8900, bit 0 — that determines whether the machine will accept changes to any parameter at all. Off, the screen shows you numbers. On, the screen lets you change them. How To Enable It
Why It Throws An Alarm
The moment PWE flips to 1, the control raises Alarm SW0100 — "PARAMETER WRITE ENABLE." This isn't a malfunction. It's Fanuc making absolutely sure you know the machine is now sitting wide open, editable, and one typo away from a very bad day. How To Clear It
Press RESET + CANCEL simultaneously and hold for 3 seconds. The alarm clears and PWE stays on until you manually turn it back off. The machine will not run a program while that alarm is active — which is exactly the point. Fanuc wants you out of production mode while you're in the parameter tables. The Habit That Saves You Grief
The second you're done editing, turn PWE back to 0 and clear the alarm the same way. Walking away with PWE left on is how a parameter gets bumped by accident, by someone else, weeks later, with nobody knowing why the machine suddenly behaves differently. |
